Fue un director y referente del cine etnogr\u00e1fico argentino. Ha realizado m\u00e1s de 50 pel\u00edculas, sobre todo en las zonas rurales argentinas. Fue profesor en la School of Theater, Film and Television de la UCLA entre 1976 y 1994. En 2007 don\u00f3 sus archivos al Human Studies Film Archives, Smithsonian Institution, donde se preservan sus pel\u00edculas. Fue director de la Maestr\u00eda de cine documental de la Universidad del Cine (Buenos Aires). En 1981 recibi\u00f3 el Premio Konex de Platino concedido por su larga trayectoria y contribuci\u00f3n a la cultura.
